Teaching Philosophy

Learning music should always be fun. To learn the flute takes lots of time, patience, and hard work, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy every minute of it. My lessons take the discipline and structure built on a strong history of conservatory training and combine it with a fun, positive attitude. I take my students through the standard course of repertoire, based on the Paris Conservatoire model. Students are introduced to a wide variety of genres, composers, and styles, all with a firm grasp of technique. I do more than just teach you how to play an instrument and to read music - important life skills are learned through music, including patience, dedication, time management, and the real meaning of hard work. My goal is to make you the best musician you can be, and pass on my love and passion for the flute.

Teaching & Skills

My background as a trained performer gives me real-world experience to give to students, whether they are preparing recitals, auditions, or exams. I am equally comfortable on piccolo, alto, and bass flute, and have years of orchestral experience as well as chamber music and solo. I teach and regularly perform works from the Baroque period to the present, by composers all around the world, with a particular interest in works by Canadian composers.
